Tonga scuba diving destinations

Tonga;-Dog-tooth-tuna-in-ca.jpgMost visitors to Tonga go to swim with the humpback whales. It is one of very few places in the world where you are allowed to swim with them and the industry is well-regulated by people who genuinely care about the whales and the marine environment. Tonga itself is quite a rustic, under-developed destination and accommodation for the most part is very simple. There are a handful of outstanding resorts, but again if you are going to swim with whales the standard of accommodation insignificance once you have had an encounter with one of the biggest mammals on the planet. Prepared to be awed, humbled and amazed.

Tonga-Humpback-whale-3-page.jpgThere is nothing like looking into the eye of a whale and the connection you will feel will move you to tears. The diving is not to be sniffed at either, particularly the caves in Eua. The underwater cathedrals are jaw-dropping and you won't have seen anything like it. The visibility can sometimes reach 100 meters! Make sure you time your trip carefully - ask your resort whether the whales have arrived. Generally speaking August is a good time for the whales but as with any animal migration you are in the hands of the Gods and any encounter you get is a blessing.

Dive sites not to miss – Eua’s underwater cathedrals.

Absolute best time to go – August to October for the whales.
